There are many other beautiful and prolific fish other than Tarpon, Permit and Bones at our two lodges.

There are healthy population of barracuda, snook, blackfin tuna, Wahoo, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, grouper, snapper and jack. Many can be taken on the fly, but we also encourage light spinning tackle for catch and release and trolling gear for the other species. It is also handy to provide something for the table when trolling back in from the flats.

The guides will provide some trolling tackle for those that get tired of double-hauling or just want to take advantage of the opportunity to put food on the table while moving from spot to spot on the Cayes. But you may want to bring your own rods if you want to do any light spinning or if you focus on trolling.

Light spinning equipment should use 12-20# mono or 30# braid. You can throw plastics, crabs, or lighter swimming lures. The heavier trolling rods should use 30# mono or braid and be stout enough to troll a 6 inch deep diving plug. Bring some 50# flora-carbon and some steel leaders, and some circle hooks. Some of the best trolling lures are Yo-zuri, Bomber, or Rapala deep diving swimmers about 5-7 inches long. Look for a variety of depth; 12 feet, 16 feet, 25 feet. Some of the better colors are green, mackerel, sardine, and red. Bring some metal lures, 2-3 oz. to add to the trolling mix.

We encourage guests to experiment and have a go at the variety of species. If you want an adventure, your guide can show you how to hand-line for barracuda while trolling or red snapper when they are schooling. While all the sport fish are strictly catch-and-release, it is also nice to bring home a snook or grouper for the dinner table.
