In addition to the wonderful fishing at our two lodges, we can also provide Eco-Tours, Snorkeling, and Birding Tours. There are local guides that are knowledgeable, licensed and know the jungle and the river because it is their backyard. We can make all the arrangements when you book.

At Monkey River Retreat our guests can schedule a River Tour up Monkey River to scout for howler Monkeys, iguanas, and jungle life. Or you can do a Night River Tour and float down the tropical river after sunset and search out crocodiles. Many of our guests will take advantage of a Jungle Hike on trails maintained to monitor the monkey troops, and a trip to Mayan ruins in the interior is always possible.

For the serious Birder, we have guides that have worked with Audubon and the Nature Conservancy in population audits. There are hundreds of species in the immediate area. We can access many environments including the jungle, the swamp, the river, the beaches, the savannah and the mangrove cayes. There is enough to keep a serious birder happy for months.

The snorkeling is world class at Seal Caye. Many people who are fishing will want to spend some time most days exploring the shallow warm water reefs. And we can book a trip that is focused just on snorkeling if that is your interest. Many of the guides have done conch and lobster diving, and no one knows the water better than they do. There are shallow wreck dives, many types of reefs, and the opportunity to try your hand at conch and lobster if the season is on. Bring your own mask and fins.

Many different Eco-Tours and Birding Tours are possible from our two lodges at Monkey River and Seal Caye. You can explore the jungle and river with local guides, and you can add to your life list with a Birding tour. The snorkeling from Seal Caye is world-class and should be part of everyone’s trip to southern Belize.
